What $699,900 Will Get You in Echo Park

Let me start by saying I live in Echo Park and there are some amazing areas with lovely views but once you get to Sunset hold onto your purse – kind of. The neighborhood has a great blend of cultures, hipsters and young families but there are also the occasional gun shots, muggings, etc.

With that said, this 1,088 square foot Echo Park home sold for $120k back in 2005 and is now up for sale asking price $699,900. The description boasts this is much more than a house. It’s “Moderne,” which means “modern” in French, and it’s “right out of the pages of Hollywood.” The “StepHouse” was probably named such because of the discouraging three flights of cement stairs you have to climb to reach this home.

Perched on a hillside, the two bedroom has 180 degree views of canyon. Even so, the leap from $120k to almost $700g’s in just five years seems a bit steep for a house that challenges your athletic ability and doesn’t even have a garage. The StepHouse is indeed “right out of the overpriced pages of Hollywood” and more like a step child screaming for more attention.
