Vintage Collectors Creepy Interiors

Home of Hollister & Porter Hovey

Although, a frightening number of Americans will be running out to see Saw 3D this Halloween, others seek joy in collecting creepy things I find nearly as shocking.  Taxidermy, osteological antiques (study of bones) and vintage things of the dead are the decor sisters Hollister and Porter Hovey choose to surround themselves with.  Apparently, it’s a trend in New York businesses, restaurants I’m hoping won’t catch on here.  The Hovey sisters live in a Brooklyn loft without windows which leaves more room for deer heads and the like.

Ryan Matthew & his Victorian oddities

Ryan Matthew, 29, is a silversmith who decorates his Brooklyn apartment with his Victorian collection of osteological antiques and domestic taxidermy.  Shriek!

Matthew’s domed vignette is quite lovely and I appreciate the creativity there but being surrounded by dead animals is not my idea of living comfortably.  He told the NY Times his obsession began in childhood when he used to collect plants and “things the dog had eaten, which my parents would find under my bed.”
