The 2nd & 3rd Place DIY Winners

2010 June 4

2nd Place Winner (after)

The second place winner in our contest goes to a man who took an iguana’s playground and made it his own.  Read more about his Playboy inspired music den here.  Our guest judge Elizabeth Burhop chose this unique room for a few reasons:

I appreciate the research-aspect devoted to this project.  Cabinetry work is difficult, and this is beautifully executed. I like the bands of black running across the wall, and the use of blinds with black cloth tape.  This was an unusual choice that most people wouldn’t have considered.  The mood lighting is also well-done, which is another thing many people consider as an after thought.  Well-planned.  Congratulations Chris!

Third place goes to this DIY Designer who had a mess of red walls to contend with.  Our judge tells us why she chose them:

This space is beautifully done.  It’s impressive that you were able to envision a tasteful modern space amidst all the noise of the previous colors.  This feels like an airy loft – the perfect work environment for creative thought.  Keeping it simple in terms of colors and and letting the eye focusing on the view outside was a smart move.  Also, carrying the wood and white theme into the bathroom was an unusual choice, and a very good one for a small space. Congratulations Jacek!

Both winners will receive our Mini Table as their prize!  Thanks for entering our first design contest.
