“Shaken, not stirred” Martini Party at John Lautner’s Elrod House.
Order your Martini “Shaken, not stirred”. It’s Palm Springs Preservation Foundation Martini Party at John Lautner’s Elrod House. February 19.
The Elrod House in Palm Springs was built in 1968 for interior designer Arthur Elrod, it is memorable for its enormous domed concrete roof, with wedge-like sections cut out to accommodate skylights and provide indirect light. It is also known for Lautner’s improvised interior use of natural rock. During the grading process of the lot, Lautner saw rocks exposed and had the contractor dig 10 feet deeper, uncovering massive rocks that he incorporated as an integral part of the interior design.
It is not the ingenious use of materials and it’s relationship between space and nature that the house is most noted for. Instead, the Elrod house is best known as the ultimate bachelor pad from the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds are Forever.
This is a party you will not want to miss. So dress in your finest, sip your Martini and try out your best Bond lines. The stage is set.
