Modernica’s 2011 End of the Year Wrap Up and A Look Ahead to What 2012 Has In Store For Us

2011 December 30

Only two days remain of 2011 and looking back, it has been an exciting one. So here is a quick run through the significant events of Modernica’s super busy year. During 2011, we introduced two new pieces to our Case Study Furniture Collection: the George Nelson Half-Nelson Lamp and the Case Study Stainless Round Table. We also introduced a new line: our Case Study Matchstick Pillow Collection.

As for our factory, we moved Modernica’s assembly department, shipping department, and the upholstery department to our new factory at the Saco Street Plant. We also added to our production facilities; a fiberglass chair plant and spent most of 2011 finishing the construction on the fiberglass chair building.

On December 16, 2011  we made our first chair at our new facilities and on December 20th, we had our first official day in fiberglass chair production. It is slow going now and we are working out the kinks in the new facilities, but very soon we will have it functioning at full-capacity production.

Our props department took over the old factory at 7th Place and expanded three-fold. We have added many new pieces of furniture and have added a ‘cleared art’ department to the 3rd floor. We have been working steadily rearranging the mirage of departments by furniture style.

As for me, I was hired as the new editor and spent the beginning part of the year writing the content for the newly-designed website which was launched in March 2011. Then in May, I was given the role as blog editor and have been having a blast Modernica(ing) your lives everyday as your blogger.

Wow, now that is a year of accomplishments: New website, new factory, and an expanded prop house! Let us raise a glass and say c’est magnifique Modernica!

And now, very soon my friends, we will be saying adieu to 2011 and saying hello to 2012.

Looking ahead, Modernica shows no signs of slowing down. In the spring of 2012 we plan on releasing a new line of Case Study Ceramic Pots. Additionally, we will be adding pieces to our Case Study Bedroom series and expanding the collection.

For our factory expansion news; by April 2012, our wood shop plant’s construction will be completed and the wood shop will move to Saco Street. At that point, all of Modernica manufacturing will be located in one location. The final building project at Saco Street will be the administrate offices, which has a start date sometime mid-summer.

With that said, it is easy to say that with each successful project at the 5-acre plant on Saco Street, Modernica continues to buck manufacturing trends with its’ commitment to keeping production and jobs local. Once again proving itself to be a consummate maverick and a company to watch in 2012.
