High Line Park

Back in 2004, I remember visiting Manhattan and hearing about plans for a park to replace an abandoned rail line.  The space was covered in weeds and it was difficult to imagine a park as beautiful as High Line.  An elevated, modern park in the sky built on top of the skeleton of an old rail system seemed far fetched but what seemed imaginable only five years ago is now a reality.  A design contest was won by James Corner (Design Lead, the landscape architect) and the project began.  The eagerly awaited High Line elevated urban park officially opened in June for thousands of New Yorkers looking to escape the hubbub of the city below.
