As if Black Friday and Cyber Monday weren’t spectacular enough, this year we’re celebrating Small Business Saturday with our local Los Angeles community.
Small Business Saturday is an initiative that encourages communities to support and celebrate their local businesses. The “Shop Small” movement takes place every year, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It’s small, family-owned businesses, after all, that keep each neighborhood and community running smoothly.
Modernica’s Small Business Story
Modernica was founded when brothers Frank and Jay Novak discovered 12,000 Fiberglass Shells left to ruin in the parking lot of the long-abandoned Century Plastics factory. Neither lover of American Modernism could bear to see such a wealth of design history go to waste, so the two brothers bought the chair shells and used them to start a little chair refurbishing/reselling business. And that’s how Modernica was born.
Today, 25 years later, Modernica is still owned and operated by the Novak brothers. The business has grown into a major furniture manufacturing facility that employs over 100 workers in downtown Los Angeles. We pride ourselves on fine craftsmanship and keep our processes in-house, from wood-work and upholstery to fiberglass molding. As often as possible, we also strive to work with local Los Angeles suppliers.
Join us this Saturday, Nov. 29th from 11am to 6pm to celebrate our 25 years of business here in Los Angeles. Refreshments will be served all day to customers who visit our Los Angeles Showroom at 7366 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles 90036. Our Black Friday Sale will continue throughout the day as well, so make sure to check out the great deals on the Showroom floor while you’re there!
