Tom Ford’s “A Single Man” filmed in Lautner’s Schaffer House

2010 February 3

The Academy snubbed Tom Ford’s A Single Man for a best picture nomination but the set design deserves a serious nod.  Set decorator Amy Wells did a fabulous job and some of our props actually made it into the movie to help enhance the look.

Along with the impressive set design was John Lautner’s Mid-Century Schaffer House used as George’s (Colin Firth) home.  Designed by Lautner back in 1949, the Schaffer Residence is located at the foot of the Verdugo Mountains in Glendale.   Lautner used redwood, concrete and glass to create his open plan design bringing nature even closer.
